IMECTAC hosts new year get-together, as CEO Ayo Oluyemi announces plans for four films in 2025

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ibadan International Metropolitan College of Theater Arts and Cinematography, (IMECTAC), Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, Prince  Ayo Oluyemi has announced the plan of the film school to produce four films in the year 2025.

Prince Ayo Oluyemi made the revelation at the IMECTAC beginning of the year 2025 celebration programme held at IMECTAC Film school 12 Ganiyu Bello, felele, Ibadan on Saturday, January 4, 2025.

He said the development becomes imperative to showcase the prowess of the institution in film making.

He also charged students of the Institution to continue to push the limits of their creativity in the industry with utmost priority and strive for excellence.

According to him, the  get together was organized to celebrate the achievements of the film school in the year 2024 and to usher the students into year 2025 with prayers and thanksgiving to God Almighty

“The  event is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with fellow students, alumni, and friends, while also reflecting on our achievements in 2024 and setting our sights on an exciting 2025.

“To our faculty members, I thank you for your unwavering commitment to our students’ success. To our alumni, I congratulate you on your achievements and invite you to remain connected to our community.”

Prince Oluyemi who said IMECTAC will produce four films in 2025, noted that some students of IMECTAC are studying films and cinematography at Toronto film college, while some have gained admission into other universities in the country.

He encouraged young people who have flare for acting to approach the school for registration for upward training and grooming to enable them fit professionally and achieve their goals in the industry.

“I am honored to stand before you today to mark the beginning of a new year at IMECTAC Film School. As we gather to celebrate this milestone, I am filled with pride, honour and gratitude for the incredible achievements of our community.

“First and foremost, I want to express my deepest appreciation to each and every one of you for your hard work, dedication, and passion. Your tireless efforts have propelled our institution to new heights, and I am thrilled to see the impact we are making in the film industry.

“As we reflect on the past year, I am delighted to highlight some of our key achievements, which include the  successful  launched of new programmes and workshops, collaboration with renowned industry partners, and expansion of  our campus facilities. Our students and alumni have continued to excel, winning prestigious awards and recognition for their outstanding work.

“As we look to the future, I am excited to share our vision for 2025. We will continue to push the boundaries of innovation, creativity, and excellence in film education. We will strengthen our industry connections, providing more opportunities for our students and alumni to thrive. We will also invest in new technologies and facilities, ensuring that our campus remains a hub for cutting-edge in filmmaking.

“IMECTAC also is also sending students to film institution in the country, while plans are on to send  some who graduated from IMECTAC to represent the institute in Canada and other countries.

“Last year we did a lot of stage performance, this time we are going international, hence everyone should take rehearsal very serious.

“I want to tell you that theatre arts is for people who are disciplined, so I urge you to be disciplined, Cinema is a medium where you cant be alone but fulfilled.

The occasion featured the review of IMECTAC achievements in 2024, including successful film projects, awards, and recognition received by  students and alumni.

Among issues discussed included  focus of the Institution for 2025, and  new programmes, workshops, and collaborations that will enhance film education and  connections in the industry.

They shared updates on campus expansion and facilities upgrades, while they introduced new faculty members and industry partners.

The programme provided a platform for students to showcase their work, share their experiences, and received feedbacks from peers and industry professionals, just as they enjoyed good food, music, and company, while the presentation of  IMISI Musical video  took place

In closing, I would like to leave you with a quote from the great filmmaker, Martin Scorsese: “Cinema is a medium that can make you feel less alone.” As we embark on this new year, let us continue to harness the power of film to inspire, to educate, and to bring people together.

The Programme had in attendance, the Director of the film institute, Mrs Olatunde Oluyemi, members of the alumni, the editor of Oodua News Newspaper Ibadan, Comrade Richard Thomas,  top artistes and stakeholders in the industry.
