
The President of Nigeria Judo Federation Dr Musa Oshodi has said it was high time the National Sports Commission (NSC) began to support the sports federations in terms of sponsorship drive in order to grow them.
Dr Oshodi who observed that the bane of sports development is lack of funding said instead of giving out funds, the NSC may assist in seeking for sponsors one way or the other.
He stated that its recent competition which heralded the celebration of its founders day, Dr Jigoro was attended such that they were able to use it judiciously in honing the skills of existing judokas apart from the discovery of new ones which can be used to keep the established ones on their toes.
Dr Oshodi explained further that though the competition cost millions naira which was procured within to organize as all the states of the Nigerian federation were able to attend with their judokas who competed for honors, it was however a worthwhile venture which was not in vain.
He stressed the need for the quick intervention of the NSC in the area of sponsorship drive noting that the body was better positioned in terms of might and power than the federations to secure sponsorship which will go a long way in assisting all them to procure funding for their various competitions and programs which will eventually lead to their developments.
He pointed out that the idea of having to depend on well meaning individuals within the federations would not augur well as these individuals might be incapacitated one way or the other due to one factor or the other in the future.
