Cholera: Itesiwaju LG takes prompt action over recorded case in Okaka town

Cholera, a fast spreading disease which stands a threat to human health and existence had been witnessed in many parts of Nigeria these days, majorly caused by dirty environment, contaminated water and food. Lately, Itesiwaju LG recorded a case of cholera in Okaka town

Report has it that towards the evening of Wednesday 9th October,2024, a young boy of about 6 years of age was discovered to have contacted cholera in Okaka town and with the quick intervention of health officers in the LGA the epidemic was nipped in the bud and no death was recorded.

Thus, the team of WHO ( world health organization) had visited the town and the point of the incident when they got the wind of the case.


More, Hon. Ojo Monsuru Olayemi, the executive chairman of Itesiwaju LG in a quick response to the cholera outbreak has ordered that proper medical attention be given to the victim and thorough fumigation be carried out as a matter of urgency in that particular area where the case was discovered to forestall further spread of the disease.


Meanwhile, inspection to the victim home was done by the team of environmental officers of the LGA which was led by sanitarian Olagoke olatunde, the deputy director of environmental health services of Itesiwaju LG in the company of the vice chairman of the council, hon. Ayangbade peter, the secretary to the LG and some notable political functionaries in the LG. Sanitarian Olagoke expressed shock over the dirty state of the house and surrounding of the victim, he said ” it was an unpleasant situation and an eyesore”. The team then swong into action by carrying out fumigation of the entire area, though the fumigation work was met with anger from the father of the infected boy who was bent on attacking the environmental officers with heavy club but was later prevailed upon and thorough fumigation of the place was carried out as directed by the council boss, Hon. Ojo Monsuru Olayemi.


At the conclusion of the fumigation work, community leaders and many residents of the affected community were full of praises and appreciated hon. Ojo Monsuru Olayemi and the entire team of the environmental officers present for their quick intervention.
