Immortalise late Pa Akinkunmi, Oyo Gov’t tells FG …as Nigeria flag designer laid to rest in Ibadan

The Acting Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Bayo Lawal, has charged the federal government of Nigeria, to immortalise Pa Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi (OFR), for recognition and sustainability of his legacy.

Barrister Lawal gave the charge, at the funeral service of Pa Akinkunmi, the man who designed Nigeria flag, held at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Liberty road, Ibadan.

The Acting Governor said Federal government should have shoulder the funeral service of Pa Akinkunmi, whose contribution is enduring legacy that is reminding Nigeria to remain united.

In his sermon, “tagged day of accountability”, Pastor Olufemi Omowunmi, charged people to emulate Pa Akinkunmi by contributing their quota to savage Nigeria and for it development without holding a political office.

While urging the congregation to be watchful and mindful of their actions, he added that everyone regardless of status, shall someday be called home like Pa Akinkunmi to give account of their life.

In his tribute, Chairman Advisory Council of Oyo State, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde(MON) who called for togetherness among Nigerians, to navigate the challenges of Nigeria and build on legacy Pa Akinkunmi left behind, appreciated Governor Makinde for comforting the family by granting fund for the burial ceremony.

Speaking on behalf of the family, son of the deceased, Akinwunmi Akinkunmi, who was so fulfilled, revealed that they fought so many battles to achieve the funeral, with the aid of Oyo state government.

Nigerian Army/NYSC band, Choir of GOFAMINT, Cultural group added colorful to the funeral ceremony of Late Pa Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi, who was born on 10th May, 1936 and died age 87 on 29th August, 2023 designed Nigeria flag while he was 23.
