A Lawmaker in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Musibau Azeez has made a passionate appeal to the federal government on the need to complete the rehabilitation of Iseyin- Okeho road to aid economic development and reduce incessant robert attacks on the road.

The legislator who represents Kajola Constituency in the State House of Assembly made the appeal in a motion he presented during the House plenary.

Hon. Musibau Azeez fondly  addressed as “Action” in the motion noted that the poor condition of the road under rehabilitation has grossly affected economic development of the area.

“It is an obvious fact that without good road network, distribution and consumption can not increase even if the population keeps growing. The number of rural poor in Nigeria keeps soaring because they do not have access to  markets, as a result, unquantifiable agrarian products  perish, thereby making life difficult for the people.”

Hon. Azeez noted that the Iseyin-Okeho road which links town in Kajola, Iseyin and Ibadan the Oyo State Capital had been in deplorable condition and state of disrepair over some time, adding that the situation has become increasingly unbearable to residents and people playing the road especially for economic activities.

He noted that rehabilitation work on the road in question which was awarded to the contractor in 2021 brought hope to the people who already were excited that the road when completed would enhance economic activities of the affected areas.

“The length of the road in question is about 28.6km including construction of two brigades from Iseyin to Okeho, leading through Iganna- Iwere Ile and Ijio, the level of work has just reached 30 percent, while major sections of the road had been left unattended to, and the contractor abandoned the site , claiming non availability of fund to continue the work.”

“The stoppage of the work which also had to do with heavy rainfall has further deteriorated  to the point of becoming death trap to users, leading to several accidents by travelers.

Hon Azeez observed that some areas like Oyalugbo , Olugbade and others are terribly in bad condition, adding that it has almost cut off Iwajowa area from the  state

He said if urgent steps ware not taken to address the development, people travelling through the roads and othe parts of Oke Ogun axis would continue to find is difficult to access the road for usage.

In his prayers before the House, Hon Azeez  “Action’ urged the federal government through the Federal Ministry of Works to release funds to the contractor handling the project to complete the work in good time.

Presiding on the motion, the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin described the motion as timely adding that quick  completion of the road  would bring development to the Oke Ogun axis of the state,  just as he appealed to the federal government and the  concerned authorities to expedite action on the rehabilitation works.
