The Area Commander, Iyaganku Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Ibadan, Oyo State, Assistant Commissioner of Police, (ACP) Mohammed Ajose has assured stakeholders and people of Mokola community of adequate security such that will enable them sleep with their eyes closed.
The ACP gave the assurance at a one day familiarisation visit to the Mokola Police Divisional Headquarters, Ibadan on Friday, saying to achieve this, the people need to cooperate and support the police with useful information that would help the police clamp down on any form of security problem in the area.
According to him, the Police is always ready to collaborate with members of the public in order to achieve maximum security for them.
“The only way we can achieve peace in our community is by working together, so I urge you to assist the Police with useful information that will help us to arrest unwanted situations in your community.”
“In case of any issue, you are free to come to us, we will assist and address them. Like I use to say, we are here to serve you, endeavor to approach us whenever there are issues, I assure you that the Iyaganku Area Command will cooperate and attend to you.”
“On the misconduct of some of our men, we are going to address that too, there is no way we will not work together, the police is always here to attend to you issues, ACP Ajose added.
In her address, the DPO, Mokola Divisional Police Headquarters, CSP Akinbowale Abimbola thanked the Area Commander for the visit, adding that the visit was significant as it would provide a platform for the Commander to sensitize members of the Division and stakeholders present on some current realities around them.
Speaking on the challenges of the Divisional Headquarter, CSP Akinbowale said one of the major challenges is the constraint of manpower, adding that the strength of the division is low, saying, eight of their men are currently on special duty at Operation Department State Headquarters while five are on spot permanently without coming to work.
She said other challenges are in the areas of accomodation as most of their staff do not have office space, adding that darkness is always the order of the day during night hours at the Mokola Roundabout, especially under the bridge.
According to her, the development gives room for hoodlums to operate freely under the bridge, just as she urged the ACP to help appeal to the state government to illuminate both sides of the bridge in the Mokola area .
“We are glad to state that within the limit of the available human and logistics resources, officers and men of this division were able to make some recoveries of arms and amunitions, stolen vehicles, motorcycles, generating sets and three suspected armed robbers who have been handed over to SCID, Iyaganku.
” I have to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of my officers and men of the division for their dedication and gallantry at duty.”
CSP Akinbowale however acknowledged the immense support and cooperation which the division has recieved from the PCRC through their chairman, the Vigilante and others.
Also in his address, the Aare Musulumi of Adamasingba and Environs in Ibadan, Dr. Raymond Adeyinka Adewale commended ACP Ajose for his gallant efforts and powerful security architecture in the Area Command, especially his visit to oversee development in the Mokola Police Divisional Headquarters.
He said the visit held great significance as it provided the opportunity to acknowledge the hard work, dedication and sacrifice made by the men and women who serve in the division.
The Aare Musulumi who is also the Chairman, Aryfad Travels and Tours Limited Ibadan said the role of police in our society cannot be over emphasize as guardians of law and order who protect our communities.
“Your commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of our citizens is commendable. You are the first line of defense against crime and disorder, today I stand here to celebrate and commend your efforts and to discuss how we can work together to build a safer and more just society.
Dr Adewale while urging the Mokola Police Divisional Headquarters to continue to strengthen their ties with the community, encouraged them to invest in comprehensive training programmes that encompass areas such as conflict resolution, crisis intervention and others.
He also urged members of the division to strive to operate with the highest level of integrity and professionalism by being transparent in their actions.
The programme had in attendance the Chairman PCRC, Mokola and Iyaganku Area Command, the Chairman of Vigilante, Mokola Division among other stakeholders.
Some of them who spoke at the programme called for more synergy between them and the police to achieve more on security issues.
