Cholera: Ensure healthy food, clean environment- Akinyele LG boss, Akinleye urges residents

The Executive Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Hon. Akinwole Akinleye has called on Indigenes and non-indigene of the area to always eat healthy
food and maintain an hygienic environment in order to prevent cholera outbreak reported in neighboring states of Lagos and Ogun.

Hon. Akinleye made this known during the sensitization and campaign
on prevention of Cholera around major markets and strategic centres within the council area .

The Chairman stressed that “prevention is better than cure” that is the main reason while they carry out an awareness to prevent it rather than spending huge resources on cure, which sometimes may result in death.

He said the cost of living is high and food prices are on the high side, so it is better to set machinery in place to stop the spread of it.

Hon Akinleye promised that he will not take health matters for granted and
it is one of the paramount sectors his administration will ensure all hands will be on deck for greater output in the entire Akinyele Local Government.

The council boss assured that in few days from now,
all well water within the council area will be treated while and heaps of refuse in all the markets will be cleared with the cooperation
of market leaders, traders and community leaders,in order to ensure a clean, safe and hygienic environment .

In his words, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Sakiru Akintunde said the campaign
aimed at public enlightenment to prevent the disease in conjunction with the
traders and market leaders within the council area to create more awareness
on cholera outbreak.

“Our Local Government is a mixed with ethnic groups with
commodity market, so there is a need for quick action in order to prevent the outbreak.

The Director of Environment Health, Disease and Control, Sanitarian B.T Olatunbosun, highlighted the need for regular hand washing with soap, eating of hot food, avoid buying of food that is not well cooked and properly covered adding that everybody should ensure they have provision for convenience in their various homes.

She urged residents who suspects any case of cholera, not to hesitate to take the person to the nearest hospital for treatment.

She pointed out that the symptoms are vomiting, stooling and dizziness.

In her remark, Head of Local Government Administration,Dr. Dele Busari lauded the present administration for being proactive to every sensitive issue that concerns the citizen.

She encouraged everyone to be vigilant and mindful of their health status.
