Shooting Stars Chairman Honorable David Babatunde Olaniyan has urged the state government led by Engr Seyi Makinde to release the balance of 45 million naira budgeted for the team to enable it perform optimally.
Speaking in Ibadan, Honorable Olaniyan enjoined Governor Makinde to expedite action on the release of the 45 million Naira funds budgeted and approved by the state House Assembly in order for the 1975 Africa Cup Winners Cup winners to attain its objectives of finishing well at the end of the on going league season.
He explained that the sum of 45 million naira was budgeted and approved by the state House of Assembly while the sum of 35 million naira approved for last year by the government is still being given to the 1996 double champions monthly as grant instead of 45 million naira.
He stated that with this, the team which won CAF Cup in 1992 is unable to meet its financial obligations to its players and the team itself as the running of the 1998 League champions is impeded due to lack of sufficient funds.
Honorable Olaniyan pointed out that the team has had to borrow money with interest in order to get funds to run the team arguing that the Shooting Stars borrow to host its two home matches, prosecute its two away matches during which players and officials are given hotel accommodations apart from daily and feeding allowances being paid to them not to mention wining bonuses to the players, coaching crew and some teams officials
