As part of his efforts to reduce crimes and ensure an enabling environment for all and sundry in Ibadan North West Local Government area of Oyo State, the council chairman, Honourable AbdulRahman Olanrewaju AdepojuĀ has placed outright ban on carnivals and illegal gatherings within the nooks and crannies of the council area, before, during andĀ after festive period,
He gave the directives at the December Local Government peace and security meeting held at the Council secretariat Onireke Ibadan.
According to him, carnivals were meant to generate funds for the development of the community rather, the youths have turned it to opportunity to engage in immoral acts like stealing, smoking, raping, pickpocket and other nefarious activities, hence the need for the outright ban of carnivals and any illegal gatherings during and after the festive period became imperative.
The Chairman warned that anyone found wanting shall be decisively dealt with regardless of his or her socio political status.
Hon. Adepoju implored the security operatives to enforce the directives on all and ensure that the security of lives and property of the residents of Ibadan Northwest Local Government become their priority.
On traffic congestions in some areas within the local government, the security personnels condemned the non challant attitudes of motorcyclists other wise known as Okada riders and motorists most especially at Eleyele area.
They suggested that there should be database of all cyclists and motorists within the council area as this will help to track down anyone who commit or perpetuate any criminal act.
On the issue of recent fire outbreaks in some areas, the security operatives urged the people to be mindful of how they handle electrical appliances and burning of bushes around them at the period.
“All of these should be done with cautions to avert fire outbreak. Also, the use of fireworks during this festive period should stop outrightly, because they cause more havoc than the fun they derive.”
The security operatives lauded the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for his supports for all security agencies in the state through provision of adequate facilities needed for effective security network.
The council chairman was also commended for complementing efforts of the governor in the security sector, just as they urged him not to relent in his service to humanity.
The Council boss appreciated the efforts of all the security operatives for their professional inputs in ensuring peaceful co-existence in the council area and the state in general.
The chairman then assured the security personnels of provision of logistics and necessary assistance needed to curb criminal activities within the Council area and the state in particular.
The programme had in attendance the Vice Chairman, Alhaji Ganiy Omotosho, representatives of Security operatives, community stakeholders and the Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs Olaronke Ige.
