The coronation of the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, will commence, on Thursday, December 14 till Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
The Chairman of Central Planning Committee
for the official coronation, Professor Adesola Adepoju, made this announcement in a statement in Ogbomoso, on Tuesday.
Professor Adepoju said the development followed the approval of motion of stay of execution by the Oyo State High Court against the nullification of the selection process which enthroned Oba Olaoye.
It will be recalled that a prince, Kabir Olaoye, filed a suit marked HOG/27/2022, alleging irregularities in the process that led to Oba Ghandi’s emergency as Soun of Ogbomosoland.
Justice Kareem Adedokun ruled in favour of the plaintiff and sacked Oba Ghandi.
Displeased with the judgment, Oba Ghandi and the state government filed an appeal as well as an application for a stay of execution.
On Monday, the judge granted the application for stay and directed “all the parties to maintain the status quo ante pending the hearing and determination of the appeal already filed by the defence of Oba Olaoye and the state government.”
Speaking further, the chairman of the planning committee said, “The correct date is between Thursday, December 14 and Tuesday, December 19, 2023. We appreciate media partners for their supports and urged them to always seek proper clarifications from the appropriate authority before going to press.”
The chairman, therefore, assured that the breakdown of the main event will be made public in a few days at the World Press Conference coming up soon.
