Ibadan Foundation gives bursay awards to 22 indigent Ibadan students

The Ibadan Foundation IBF, has presented cheques worth over one million naira to 22 indigent but brilliant students of Ibadan origin who won it’s bursary awards for the 2023/2024 academic session .

The receipients comprising 14 tertiary and eight secondary school students won the bursary based on their accademic performance records and character in their various institutions of learning.

At the the presentation ceremony held at the Foundation’s office, Onireke, Ibadan, the Oyo state capital on Sunday, the Chairman, Ibadan Foundation Scholarship Board, Chief (Mrs ) Bola Doherty told Punch Correspondent that a cheques of N50, 000 were presented to each of the students.

Doherty who is the Treasurer of the IBF stated that the foundation established in 1989, engaged in the voluntary service of empowering able and talented students to realize their full educational potentials,

While noting that more applicants were qualified than what the foundation could accommodate within it’s limited available resources, she charged the students who made the list “to brace up for more profitable academic excellence rather than engagement in fruitless social night-crawling and debasing easy-virtue activities”.

She stated that responses inviting applications for the 2023 bursary awards was high with tertiary students’ application topping the list adding that sizable number of applicants merited the awards based on their accademic performance records but for the limited funds available to the scholarship board.

According to her , the foundation is determined to upgrade this annual assistance scheme into a full-length support for brilliant students of tertiary institutions with consistent “first class grading to enjoy sponsorship throughout their course of study.

“Such sponsored Ibadan Foundation Scholars” will have the privilege of automatic membership of the Ibadan Foundation once in stable gainful employment to avail them the opportunity of contributing their own quota to the overall development of lbadan land.

“This is a challenge to all students of Ibadan origin with in-born patriotic and philanthropic spirit. To qualify for preliminary consideration, prospective beneficiaries of this “full scholar scheme” will be required to send in their semester’s academic records for continuous assessment.” she said

Responding on behalf of parents of the beneficiaries, Mrs Bisade Ajibola expressed gratitude for the gesture assuring that students would live up to expectations in their studies and make the foundation proud.

Other members of the IBF in attendance are ; the president of the foundation, Chief Tunji Afunlehin, Mr Alamu Ayeni, Chief Onaolapo Ajibola , Chief Bayo Oyero former president, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes , Mr Diekola Kazeem, Mr Monsuru Oladele, Dr. Kazeem Olayiwola, Prof.Tunde Oyediji, Engineer Olanrewaju Adewolu, Chief Biodun Salami, Dr. Kunle Akinyemi,Mr Olasunmade Akano and Mrs Comfort Adedeji
