The former Vice Chairman of Oyo state Tennis Association Tunde Oyediran has allayed fears over Oyo state inability to haul medals at the on going National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba, Delta state.
The state contingent featuring in over twenty events are yet to win many gold medals sparking fears among observers that the state would not do well at the games.
Speaking in Ibadan, former Vice Chairman of Oyo State Tennis Association Oyediran explained that it is too early to jump to conclusions adding that the state would come out in flying colors at the games.
He noted that the state is a power house in some games such as athletics , table tennis, Ayo olopon, basketball and volleyball as well as gymnastics.
Oyediran said that based on this reason, he foresees Oyo state hauling medals at the games noting that the preliminaries of some events were just be done just as the finals of events where the state has comparative advantage have not been held.
“ The fear is uncalled for because we are sure that Oyo will do wellas the state is a power house in some events such as boxing , athletic, basketball, , Ayo olopon, table tennis and tennis.” He noted.
“ By the time the finals of this events are held , Oyo will win many medals and drop to its top position among the comity of states in Nigeria “ Oyediran posited.
