
Oyo State had mixed fortunes with her athletes in today’s activities at the ongoing 7th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.
At the mixed doubles event, Team Oyo dispatched Team Cross Rivers 2-0 (12-10, 11-5) but their march was halted in the Round of 16 by hosts Delta state after losing 0-2 (11-13, 6-11). The table-tennis contingent will however be in action tomorrow 25th September, 2023 in the singles event where Usman Ayoola (m) and Fatima Ahmed (f) will have a shot in Round of 16 singles event.
At the basketball event, the female team won their two games played. They defeated Rivers State 7-1 before rolling over Bauchi 9-2. The male team had a chequered performance where they lost 3-7 to Jigawa State before bouncing back with a victory over Imo State as It ended 10-7.
In volleyball, Team Oyo defeated Team Bayelsa by 2 sets to love (2-0) in the male category. The female team was equally victorious as they defeated Bayelsa State 2-0.
In chess, Team Oyo was flawless in both male and female events. The boys defeated Delta State 4-0 while the girls defeated Kogi State 4-0.
In cricket, the female team defeated Kogi State. The girls outscored the confluence state by with a score of 59 runs compared to 58 after 10 overs. The team will next face Ekiti state tomorrow.
