The Chairman, Ibadan North West Local Government area of Oyo State, Honourable Rahman Olanrewaju Adepoju has appealed to government at all levels to provide sustainable parliative and succor to help the masses cope with the hardship facing them as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy by president Bola Tinubu.
The Council boss who emerged as concensus candidate to run again as chairman of the council in the April 2024 local government election urged president Bola Tinubu and all levels of government to provide parliative to cushion the hardship facing the masses, noting that no matter how laudable the policies and agendas of the president are, they will not augur well without meaningful parliative.
Hon. Adepoju made the submission in an interview with Oodua News in Ibadan, saying the federal government meant well for the nation, but ought to have provided parliative for the masses before the removal of the subsidy.
Speaking on the forth coming local government election, Hon. Adepoju lauded governor Seyi Makinde for his visionary leadership, saying the development has continued to bring good governance to the grassroots.
“The federal government ought to have handled the removal of the subsidy and parliative gradually and step by step unlike the sudden action which have thrown the masses into seriously economic crises. Many Nigerians find it difficult to cope on daily basis, but we at our levels will continue to compliment efforts of the state and federal government to assist our people.”
“I appeal to the citizens to be patient with the government, trusting that the dividends of the policies will materialize soon.”
Speaking on his achievements in the last three years in office, the council boss said his administration has provided succor to the people, which include bore holes, standard maternity centers in some wards like ward 6, 1, 3, which spread across Ayeye, Agbaje, Abebi, Ori eru and others, adding that the bore holes and health centers are already in use.
According to him, his administration also embarked on provisions of compendium for primary six pupils and exercise books for pupils in primary school to enable them match with their mates in their studies.
“We also organized quiz to prepare them for external activities and this has really helped them to cope with their studies. And in the area of poverty alleviation, we have given women cash to establish small scale business to take care of their family. We are not relenting, efforts are still on to reach out to others.
On security, Hon Adepoju said the council has set up an outfit called Scorpion to curb the issue of insecurity in the local government, saying, “we brought the presence of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to Ayeye area and provided vehicle for a police station in the council. We also gave students scholarship in Technical School, School of Science, School of Nursing and others. We believe this help them to achieve good living in the future.”
He assured the people of his council of more dividends of democracy, appealing to them to be patient with the harsh policies of government, assuring that the dividends will soon be achieved.
